Alan Shearer is a former English footballer regarded as one of the greatest center-forwards in Premier League history. During his career at the top level of English football he was known for his physical strength, positioning and goal instinct, becoming the league’s all-time top scorer with 260 goals. He was a key figure in Blackburn Rovers’ 1994–95 title and finished as the competition’s top scorer for three consecutive seasons in the mid-1990s.
A product of Southampton, Shearer moved to Blackburn in 1992 and in 1996 returned to his native city by signing for Newcastle United for a then world-record £15 million, where he went on to become the club’s all-time leading scorer. He earned 63 caps for England, scoring 30 goals, and was a standout at Euro 1996, winning the tournament’s Golden Boot and being named in the team of the tournament.
After retiring in 2006, Shearer became a BBC pundit and briefly took charge of Newcastle in 2009. He has received several civic honours in the UK, reflecting his prominence and legacy in English football.
