Albert Einstein

About

Albert Einstein was a German theoretical physicist, later based in the United States, who developed the general theory of relativity, one of the two pillars of modern physics (alongside quantum mechanics).

Although best known for his mass-energy equivalence formula, E = mc2 (which was called "the most famous equation in the world"), he was awarded the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics "for his services to theoretical physics and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect".

The photoelectric effect was fundamental in establishing quantum theory.
