About

Alfried Felix Alwyn Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach was a German industrialist and engineer, the last individual owner of Friedrich Krupp AG. As head of the steel giant, he played a central role in the Third Reich’s war production and is among the business leaders held responsible for the industry’s wartime practices during World War II.

Arrested in 1945 by Allied forces, he was tried in the so‑called Krupp Trial, where prosecutors argued that the company employed prisoners of war and forced labor under inhumane conditions. Sentenced in 1948 to twelve years’ imprisonment and the forfeiture of assets, he served part of the term in Landsberg; he was later pardoned in 1951 by the Allied High Commissioner, with portions of his estate allocated for reparations and restrictions placed on his commercial activities.

In the postwar period, Krupp regained limited influence, but his legacy remained marked by controversies over corporate responsibility in wartime. When he died in 1967, his assets were transferred, according to his will, to the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation, an institution that took on part of the family’s estate.
