About

Amanda Gorman is an American poet and activist whose work focuses on themes such as oppression, feminism, race, marginalization, and the African diaspora. She gained attention at a young age: she published the poetry collection The One for Whom Food Is Not Enough (2015) and in 2017 became the first recipient of the National Youth Poet Laureate title, an honor awarded by Urban Word NYC in partnership with the Library of Congress.

Her international profile rose when she read the poem "The Hill We Climb" at the 2021 presidential inauguration, becoming the youngest poet to take part in a United States inauguration ceremony; the poem was revised after the events of January 6 to address the Capitol breach. In addition to work for adults, she has published books for children and young readers and has written tributes and commissioned pieces for institutions and brands.

Founder of the organization One Pen One Page, Gorman runs writing and leadership programs for young people. Her career combines literary production, public performance, and civic engagement, establishing her as a representative figure of a new generation of poets who blend art and activism.
