About
Andrew Ridgeley is an English musician best known as one half of the pop duo Wham!, which he formed with George Michael in the 1980s. As co-writer, guitarist and backing vocalist, Ridgeley took part in the group's meteoric career, which sold tens of millions of records and landed several internationally successful singles, including songs that reached number one on the charts in the United Kingdom and the United States.
Wham! rose to prominence with albums such as Fantastic and Make It Big, driven by ambitious promotional strategies — among them the controversial tour to China, which made the group the first Western pop act to perform officially in the country and generated extensive media exposure. Ridgeley also appeared at major events of the era, including the Live Aid benefit concert.
After the duo split, Ridgeley remained linked to the public memory of the 1980s pop phenomenon and in 2019 published his memoirs, offering a personal account of his time with George Michael and the behind-the-scenes of that period of wide visibility.
