About
Andy Biggs is an American politician and attorney affiliated with the Republican Party, serving as the U.S. representative for Arizona’s 5th District since 2017. Before joining Congress, he served in both chambers of the state legislature: as a representative (2003–2011) and as a senator (2011–2017), and was president of the Arizona Senate from 2013 to 2017. He holds degrees in Asian studies and law and a master’s in political science, and worked as a prosecutor and attorney before beginning his legislative career.
In Congress, Biggs has been part of conservative groups such as the Congressional Western Caucus and the Republican Study Committee, and he chaired the House Freedom Caucus from 2019 to 2022. He has a record of strict fiscal positions — including a vote in favor of the 2017 tax reform and opposition to several COVID-19 relief packages that he viewed as excessive.
Biggs gained national attention for his role in the post-2020 election controversies: he supported actions and narratives that challenged that year’s presidential result and took part in legal and public initiatives aligned with the "Stop the Steal" movement. Those stances, and events connected to January 6, 2021, drew criticism and provoked public disputes, including within his own family.
A candidate for governor of Arizona in 2026, he maintains a conservative profile and influence among the party’s harder-line currents, with a record defined by advocacy for limits on federal spending and by his involvement in election-related controversies.
