Anton Yelchin was an American actor of Russian origin whose work ranged from independent films to major Hollywood franchises. He became known from childhood, notably for Hearts in Atlantis and the series Huff, and established his adult career in roles such as Lieutenant Pavel Chekov in the 2009 Star Trek reboot and its sequels, as well as Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation.
His filmography blended blockbusters and auteur projects: he starred in films like Charlie Bartlett, Like Crazy and Odd Thomas, appeared in thrillers and cult comedies, and lent his voice to animated characters, including James Lake Jr. in Trollhunters and Clumsy Smurf in the Smurfs adaptations. He also worked on titles released posthumously, and part of his work was preserved in a documentary made by his family.
The son of performing artists, Yelchin had creative interests beyond acting—he was a guitarist, a photographer, and contributed music to soundtracks. His career, cut short in 2016, left a legacy across diverse projects and recognition for his versatility between commercial cinema and independent filmmaking.
