Arthur Conan Doyle

About

Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a Scottish writer and physician, world-famous for his 60 stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes, considered a major innovation in the field of crime fiction. He was a renowned and prolific writer whose works include science fiction stories, historical novellas, plays and novels, poetry, and non-fiction.

Arthur Conan Doyle lived and wrote part of his works in Southsea, an elegant neighborhood of Portsmouth, England.

He became involved in political campaigns and in Spiritualism and, according to American science historian Richard Milner, may have been one of those responsible for the rumor of the so-called Piltdown Man, an alleged hominid fossil that deceived the scientific world for more than 40 years.
