About

Augusto de Campos is a Brazilian poet, translator, essayist and critic, recognized as one of the founders of concrete poetry in Brazil alongside his brother Haroldo de Campos and Décio Pignatari. His work interweaves poetry, visual art, music and digital technologies, dissolving traditional verse into graphic-spatial structures and exploring color, sound and image in multimedia pieces.

From the first poems published in the late 1940s, Augusto moved from traditional lyricism to radical experimentation: the Poetamenos (1955) and the Plano-piloto da Poesia Concreta (1958) marked his theoretical and practical contributions to the movement. He took part in national and international exhibitions and helped rewrite the history of Brazil’s poetic avant-garde through anthologies and essays.

Beyond his poetic creation, he became notable as a translator of avant-garde authors (Ezra Pound, James Joyce, E. E. Cummings, Mayakovsky, among others) and as an essayist, coauthor of Teoria da Poesia Concreta. In subsequent decades he expanded his use of new media — neon, hologram, video and computer graphics — in performative and editorial projects that influenced later generations.
