About

Riley B. King, known as B. B. King, was an American guitarist, songwriter, and singer whose work established him as one of the central figures of the blues in the 20th century. Known for his expressive use of a few notes and for solos that emphasized phrasing and feeling, King developed a distinctive guitar style that influenced generations of blues and rock musicians. He received widespread critical acclaim, including multiple Grammy Awards and placements on Rolling Stone lists of the greatest guitarists.

His career began in Mississippi and gained momentum in Memphis, where he performed on radio programs and began playing regularly in clubs, increasing the circulation of his music nationwide. The success of the single "Three O'Clock Blues" and an intense touring schedule built his international reputation; he came to perform hundreds of shows a year and played in more than 90 countries.

B. B. King was also known for naming his guitars “Lucille” and for his role in bringing the blues to a wide range of venues, from clubs to symphony halls and jazz festivals. King’s legacy includes not only an award-winning recorded catalogue but also the spread and recognition of the blues as an influential musical language on the global stage.
