About

Betty Lou Gerson was an American actress whose work was best known in radio, with successful transitions to film, television and voice acting. She became a recurring presence in radio soap operas and dramatic programs from the mid-1930s, appearing in casts of shows such as Arnold Grimm's Daughter, The Guiding Light and Lux Radio Theatre, which established her as a recognizable voice in radio’s golden age.

In the move to visual media, she appeared in films and TV series, with roles in movies such as The Fly and Mary Poppins and guest spots on popular programs including Perry Mason and The Twilight Zone. Her versatility allowed her to perform both on camera and in narration and vocal characterization work.

She is widely remembered for providing the voice of the villain Cruella de Vil in One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961), a role that brought enduring recognition and led to her being honored as a Disney Legend in 1996. Even after retiring in 1966, she returned to the studio for occasional work, including a voice role in Cats Don't Dance (1997), leaving a lasting mark on voice acting and the legacy of classic animation.
