About

Bill “Bullfrog” Dietrich was a professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1933 to 1948. He spent time with the Philadelphia Athletics, Washington Senators, and Chicago White Sox, building a solid 16-season career defined by steady, balanced individual records.

Over his career he compiled 108 wins and 128 losses, often finishing close to a .500 record in successive seasons; his best year in wins came in 1944, when he recorded 16 victories for the White Sox.

Dietrich entered the sport’s history by throwing a no-hit game against the St. Louis Browns on June 1, 1937, at Comiskey Park, a rare and celebrated achievement for a pitcher. He was also noted for wearing glasses on the field, a feature that appears on lists of players with that trait.

His legacy is tied to longevity and consistency during a competitive era of American baseball; he died in 1978 at his home in Philadelphia.
