About

Bob Seger is an American singer, songwriter and instrumentalist, known for his raspy, powerful voice and for songs that explore themes of romance and working-class life. He emerged on the Detroit scene in the 1960s, leading bands such as Bob Seger and the Last Heard and the Bob Seger System; his first major national impact came with the album Ramblin' Gamblin' Man (1969). In the early 1970s he formed the Silver Bullet Band, with which he secured success live and in the studio, especially after the live album Live Bullet (recorded at Cobo Hall) and the milestone Night Moves (1976).

A frequent collaborator with the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, Seger scored numerous chart hits — including "Night Moves," "Turn the Page," "Still the Same" and "Like a Rock" — and also wrote for other artists, notably the Eagles' hit "Heartache Tonight." His commercial career spans six decades, with worldwide sales exceeding 75 million records and institutional recognition that includes induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Viewed as a central figure in heartland rock, Seger left a lasting legacy through both live performances and songs that capture the experience of workers and suburban audiences, concluding his touring career with a farewell tour in 2018–2019.
