About

Boz Scaggs is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist whose career spans the 1960s blues and psychedelic scenes through pop hits and later jazz and blues work. He rose to prominence as a guitarist and vocalist with the Steve Miller Band and achieved solo fame with the album Silk Degrees (1976), which reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and produced hits such as "Lowdown" and "Lido Shuffle." That record established his role in the crossover among rock, soul, and soft rock and supported a successful world tour.

Throughout his career, Scaggs moved between studio recordings and collaborations with session musicians (many of whom later joined Toto), R&B projects, and interpretations of jazz standards, as shown on the albums But Beautiful (2003) and Speak Low (2008). In the 2000s and 2010s he returned to regular touring and to recordings that explore blues and soul roots, including Memphis (2013) and A Fool to Care (2015), the latter reaching the top of the blues album chart.

Beyond music, he was active as an entrepreneur in San Francisco as owner of the club Slim’s and, more recently, has been involved in viticulture in Napa County. His legacy lies in stylistic versatility and the ability to move between genres while maintaining both critical and popular recognition.
