About

Caren Marsh Doll, born Aileen Betty Morris, is an American actress and dancer associated with Hollywood’s Golden Age. She began her career in the late 1930s as a performer in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musicals, appearing in films such as One Night in Rio, The Women, and Meet Me in St. Louis. She is especially remembered for her work as Judy Garland’s double in The Wizard of Oz (1939)—she can be seen in the shot of Dorothy’s feet when the heels are clicked—and again doubled for Garland in For Me and My Gal (1942).

During the 1940s she alternated film roles with small speaking parts and, in 1947, won the title Miss Sky Lady, which brought her closer to aviation and to activities outside the studios. She survived a serious plane crash in 1949, suffering major injuries; against medical expectations she recovered and returned to dance. In 1956 she began teaching dance.

In recent decades she devoted herself to volunteer work in dance therapy for stroke survivors and took part in events and reunions dedicated to The Wizard of Oz, remaining active as one of the few surviving members of that film generation.
