José Carlos Aranha Manga was a Brazilian film editor, screenwriter, and film and television director. Manga innovated comedy and satire in Brazilian cinema.
Manga began making a living as a bank employee, but he loved cinema. That passion led him to Atlântida Cinematográfica, through actor Cyll Farney who was part of the company's first team. He started as a storekeeper, but gradually learned the trade and rose through the ranks.
Carlos Manga had success during Atlântida's chanchadas (popular musical comedies), of which he was one of the most prominent directors.
He entered television through Chico Anysio, who invited him to work at TV Rio and to direct Chico Anysio Show, the first Brazilian TV program to use videotape tricks.
He was head director of telenovelas such as the remake of Anjo Mau (1997), Torre de Babel (1998) and Eterna Magia (2007), as well as the miniseries Agosto (1993), Memorial de Maria Moura (1994), and the series "Sandy & Junior" (1999) and "Sítio do Picapau Amarelo" (2001).
