Carroll Hall Shelby was an American automotive designer, racing driver, and entrepreneur whose career bridged the roles of elite driver and high-performance manufacturer. Winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959 alongside Roy Salvadori, Shelby established an international reputation as a competitor and, through his experience, became a central figure in the development of racing and sports cars.
After ending his driving career for health reasons, he founded Shelby American in 1962, a company devoted to building and preparing high-performance vehicles. His best-known work involved fitting V8 engines into the AC Ace chassis and collaborating with Ford on the GT40 project, which won Le Mans from 1966 to 1969 — a unique achievement in the history of American constructors at the event.
Beyond his sporting successes, Shelby worked as a businessman by creating a driving school and a workshop specialized in car preparation, leaving a legacy of technical innovation and brand-building in motorsport. His career influenced American sports-car culture and the racing industry for decades thereafter.
