Conway Twitty — stage name of Harold Lloyd Jenkins — was an American singer and songwriter whose career spanned rockabilly, rock and country, the latter becoming his principal field. Initially associated with the 1950s rock movement, he achieved international fame with the single “It’s Only Make Believe,” which reached the top of the pop charts and sold millions of copies. Over his career he established a strong presence in country music with hits such as “Hello Darlin’,” “You’ve Never Been This Far Before” and “Linda on My Mind.”
Twitty was also known for high‑impact partnerships: between 1971 and 1976 he received a string of Country Music Association awards for duets with Loretta Lynn, forming one of the genre’s most famous pairs.
