About

David Van Cortlandt Crosby was an American guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer, known for his influence on folk rock and for his experiments with harmony and guitar tunings. He rose to prominence as one of the founders of the Byrds, the band that helped popularize folk-rock in the 1960s, and appeared on the group's early albums, including the hit "Mr. Tambourine Man."

In 1968 he formed Crosby, Stills & Nash, which quickly became a touchstone of collaborative rock; the expanded lineup with Neil Young (CSNY) produced the classic album Déjà Vu and performed at landmark events such as Woodstock. Crosby contributed as writer and co-writer of key songs in the bands' repertoires, including "Eight Miles High," "Guinnevere" and "Almost Cut My Hair."

Over his career he released several solo albums and joined the more jazz-oriented trio CPR with his son James Raymond and guitarist Jeff Pevar. His work with the Byrds and CSNY sold millions of copies and earned him induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, establishing a lasting legacy in rock history.
