About

Dorwan Clifford Stoddard was an American construction worker who became one of the fatal victims of the shooting in Tucson, Arizona, on January 8, 2011. The attack occurred during a public event hosted by Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and resulted in multiple deaths and injuries, drawing national attention to political violence in the United States.

Stoddard, then in his eighties, was among those hit in the attack that also killed Judge John Roll and volunteer Christina Greene. The tragedy mobilized federal and local authorities and prompted extensive media coverage, sparking debates about public safety, mental health, and the American political climate.

The episode left a lasting mark on the collective memory of the Tucson community and the nation, underscoring the risks faced by elected representatives and citizens at public events. Stoddard’s death is part of the series of losses that defined that attack and its social and political consequences.
