About

Douglas Noël Adams was a British writer and comedian whose name became closely associated with satirical science fiction. A Cambridge literature graduate, he began his career in radio and television, collaborating on cult productions such as Monty Python and Doctor Who before achieving international recognition with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy — a franchise that began as a BBC radio series and expanded into novels, stage plays, games, and a film adaptation.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy saga combines absurd and critical humor, using bizarre situations to lampoon politics, bureaucracy, and human customs; the five canonical volumes secured his worldwide notoriety and popularity. Beyond fiction, Adams was known for his environmental activism, early interest in technologies (email, Usenet, computers), and public atheist stance, highlighted by figures such as Richard Dawkins.

After his death in 2001, his work and legacy continued through posthumous adaptations, publications of unfinished material, and fan celebrations — including "Towel Day" — which keep the influence of his humor and critical thought alive in popular culture.
