Doyle Brunson was one of the most influential figures in modern poker, a professional player for more than six decades and a central actor in establishing the game as a competitive sport. A two-time World Series of Poker Main Event champion (1976 and 1977), he won ten WSOP bracelets — a total that places him among the greatest winners in history — and was among the first players to surpass $1 million in tournament winnings.
Beyond his results, Brunson left a lasting legacy as an author; his book Super/System (1978) is regarded as a foundational work, having popularized professional strategies and changed how players are trained. His career also includes titles on the professional circuit, such as a World Poker Tour event in 2004, and steady presence at Las Vegas tables, where he played in some of the highest-stakes games.
Recognized by the community — in 2006 described by the specialist press as the most influential force in poker — Brunson helped professionalize the game and spread its technical repertoire. His career, marked by landmark results and literary contributions, has had a lasting impact on poker culture.
