Elizabeth Ann Smart is an American activist and television commentator, known for her work advocating for child safety and survivors of sexual assault. She became a public figure after being kidnapped and rescued at age 14; the experience prompted her involvement in public policy, prevention, and victim recovery.

A music graduate of Brigham Young University, Smart has testified in support of legislation on sexual predators and alert systems, and has taken part in awareness initiatives promoted by the Department of Justice and Congress. In 2011 she founded the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, focused on preventing victimization and supporting survivors.

She also works as a commentator and correspondent in media outlets, addressing cases of missing persons and issues related to sexual violence. She is the author of memoirs and has participated in audiovisual productions about her case, and has received awards and honors for her advocacy and public awareness work.
