About

Émile Pierre Sarrade was a French athlete active in the early 20th century, known for his participation in the competitions at the 1900 Paris Olympic Games. He appears as a rugby union player and also competed in the tug-of-war event, disciplines in which France had a strong presence that year — especially in the rugby tournament, whose French team won its matches and was cited among the first champions of the Olympic competition.

Sarrade’s career falls within a transforming sports context, when the 1900 Games expanded participation and the variety of events, and athletes often competed in more than one discipline. His participation in two distinct events illustrates the diverse roles athletes assumed at the time.

Although detailed records about his life beyond the Games are scarce, his presence on the French teams contributes to the country’s collective legacy in the early editions of modern Olympic athletics. Sarrade remains associated with the generation of pioneers who represented France internationally and helped establish team sports such as rugby and tug-of-war in competitive circuits.
