About
Eric Larson was an American animator whose career at the Disney studios began in 1933 and spanned more than five decades. A member of the famous group known as the “Nine Old Men,” he worked as an animator on classics such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia, Bambi, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmatians, Sleeping Beauty and The Jungle Book, as well as on dozens of shorts and television specials. Among his notable contributions are background figures in The Jungle Book and sequences in Peter Pan.
In 1961 he was credited as a director on 101 Dalmatians, but most of his subsequent career focused on character animation and advisory roles. In the 1970s he led a comprehensive training program for new animators, launched during a transitional period for the studio as many veterans retired.
That program trained generations of professionals who would become leading figures in contemporary animation and established Larson’s pedagogical legacy within the studio. He retired in 1986 and was posthumously honored as a Disney Legend in 1989, recognizing his technical and formative influence on the field of animation.
