About

Fernando “El Niño” Torres is a Spanish coach and former player, known for his career as a centre-forward and for standout spells at European clubs and with the Spanish national team. A product of Atlético de Madrid’s youth system, he rose to international prominence in the early 2000s for his pace, acceleration and goal instincts, becoming club captain at a young age and recording goal-scoring seasons that placed him among Spain’s leading strikers.

His club career included high-profile transfers, notably to Liverpool—where he established himself as a top scorer and fan favourite—and to Chelsea in one of the era’s biggest moves. He won major trophies on the continent and made decisive contributions in European campaigns that enhanced his reputation.

With the Spanish national team, Torres played a decisive role in winning Euro 2008, the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012, and is especially remembered for scoring the winning goal in the 2008 final. After retiring as a player, he returned to football as a coach and currently manages Atlético de Madrid B, remaining a prominent figure in Spanish football.
