About

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was an American lawyer and statesman who served as President of the United States from 1933 to 1945, becoming the only president to serve four terms. Leader of the Democratic Party, he was a key figure in the crises and transformations of the mid-20th century, guiding the country through most of the Great Depression and through World War II.

On the domestic front, FDR launched the New Deal — a broad array of economic, social, and regulatory measures aimed at recovery, job creation, and social protection. Legislative legacies of his administration include Social Security, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the consolidation of labor rights, along with the formation of the New Deal Coalition that reshaped the American political map.

In foreign policy, he brought the United States from a posture of aid and financing for the Allies to direct entry into World War II after Pearl Harbor, coordinating with leaders such as Churchill and Stalin. He also backed initiatives that paved the way for the creation of the United Nations.

Roosevelt remains one of the most influential and debated presidents in U.S. history, remembered for his leadership in crisis, for expanding the role of the federal government, and for the enduring impact of his public policies.
