About

Frits Philips was a Dutch industrialist and business leader from the family that founded Philips, where he served in executive positions and chaired the board. Trained as an engineer, he kept the company operating during the Nazi Occupation by remaining in the country, a stance that also allowed him to protect employees — he was credited with saving 382 Jews during World War II.

After the war, he became known for expanding the company’s activities beyond manufacturing: he founded a pioneering corporate air service and helped build Eindhoven’s civilian terminal, promoting mobility and the industrial reconstruction of Europe. In 1977 he helped establish the association that later became the European Business Aviation Association.

Philips also played a significant role in corporate social responsibility initiatives. In 1986 he launched the Caux Round Table, a group of executives that formulated ethical principles for international business by integrating Western and Japanese concepts, which became a reference for large companies.

A popular figure in Eindhoven, he was known for his cordial relations with workers and residents; his legacy includes support for local cultural and educational projects such as the Evoluon and the music center that bears his name.
