About

Garrison Keillor is an American author, radio broadcaster, humorist, and voice actor best known for creating and hosting the show A Prairie Home Companion, which premiered in 1974 and remained a touchstone of public radio for four decades. The program combined live music, comic sketches, and the fictional monologue “The News from Lake Wobegon,” an invented town that inspired several of his books, including Lake Wobegon Days.

Keillor also created recurring characters such as detective Guy Noir and hosted The Writer’s Almanac, a short daily program that paired poetry with historical notes. His distinctive voice and narrative style became a recognizable authorial signature in American radio culture and in live theatrical tours of the show’s format.

In 2017 his public career was affected by allegations of inappropriate conduct, which led to the suspension of commercial ties with the public broadcaster that distributed his programs; a later agreement allowed the re-exposure of archival material and the resumption of some independent activities. His legacy includes a lasting influence on the tradition of live radio and on promoting literature and music through hybrid entertainment formats.
