Geoff Bodine is an American racing driver whose on-track career spanned more than 28 years, primarily in NASCAR’s top division. Known for his roots in Northeastern U.S. motorsport, he achieved success in Modified and Late Model racing before establishing himself in the Winston Cup, where he recorded 18 wins, 37 poles and 565 starts. His résumé includes high-profile achievements such as the 1986 Daytona 500, the International Race of Champions title in 1987 and Rookie of the Year in 1982.
Bodine was also noted for technical innovations in the series, being associated with the introduction of features such as power steering and full-face helmets in the Winston Cup. Both a driver and owner, he once took over the assets of Alan Kulwicki’s team and drove for historic owners including Junior Johnson, Bud Moore and Rick Hendrick.
Throughout his career he experienced public rivalries that marked the 1980s, yet he maintained a reputation as an influential competitor—recognized among the “50 Greatest Drivers in NASCAR”—and left a legacy tied both to his victories and to technical and organizational contributions to the sport.
