About

Gino Paoli was one of the central figures of post‑war Italian song, recognized as a composer and performer of songs now regarded as classics of the popular repertoire. Born in Monfalcone and based in Genoa, he was part of the so‑called "Genovese School" alongside Luigi Tenco, Bruno Lauzi and others, helping to renew Italian song in the 1950s and 1960s.

His repertoire includes enduring hits such as "Il cielo in una stanza", "Sapore di sale", "Che cosa c'è" and "Senza fine", songs that have crossed generations, been covered by international artists and appeared on film soundtracks. Collaborations with influential arrangers and producers, such as Ennio Morricone on "Sapore di sale", helped cement his work.

Over the course of his career he released albums and toured, remaining creatively active in subsequent decades and collaborating with artists such as Ornella Vanoni. His public life also included political engagement when he was elected to parliament in 1987, although he returned to music in the 1990s.

Paoli left a lasting legacy within the Italian song tradition: his body of compositions and his hits remain part of the popular repertoire and contemporary interpretations, reflecting the cultural influence he exerted for more than six decades.
