About

Hank Williams Jr. is an American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, known by the nickname Bocephus and for blending elements of rock, blues and country. The son of the legendary Hank Williams, he began his career performing his father’s songs, but over the years developed his own voice and incorporated sounds from Southern rock and the so-called outlaw country.

After a serious mountain accident in 1975 that caused severe fractures and required a long recovery, Williams rebuilt his career and rose to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s with highly successful albums and singles. He became one of the most influential names in modern country, with numerous hits such as "Family Tradition" and "A Country Boy Can Survive," as well as the duet that merged his voice with his father’s recording on "There’s a Tear in My Beer."

Recognizable for his public image — beard, sunglasses and hat — and for collaborating with figures from Southern rock, Williams has earned major awards, including Grammys and Emmys, and in 2020 was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. His legacy bridges the traditions of classic country and the energy of Southern rock.
