About

A princess of royal origin, Maria Teresa was the daughter of Alfonso XII and Archduchess Maria Cristina of Austria, belonging to the Spanish Bourbon family at the turn of the twentieth century. Born in Madrid, she was recognized for her dynastic role within the Spanish constitutional monarchy and for family ties that strengthened links among European royal houses.

On 12 January 1906 she married Prince Ferdinand of Bavaria, an infante of Spain and member of the House of Wittelsbach, a union that brought the Spanish and Bavarian courts closer. The marriage produced four children, among them Luis Alfonso and Maria de las Mercedes, maintaining dynastic continuity and connections with other royal houses.

During her short life she held titles and honors of the Spanish high nobility, including Dame of the Order of Queen Maria Luisa. Her death in 1912 prematurely ended a presence that, while not politically public, played a role in matrimonial arrangements and the family networks of European royalty.
