About

J. J. Watt is a former American football player and current sports analyst, known for his career as a defensive end in the National Football League. Drafted by the Houston Texans in the first round of the 2011 Draft, he became a central figure on the franchise’s defense for nearly a decade, setting team records for sacks and forced fumbles. His presence and versatility — at times also lining up as a defensive tackle — made him a constant threat to opposing quarterbacks.

Among his individual achievements, Watt won the Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year award three times within his first five NFL seasons, including a historic campaign that featured more than 20 sacks in a season, an unprecedented feat at the time. In 2012 he produced one of the league’s best defensive seasons, and in 2014 he also contributed occasionally on offense, scoring three receiving touchdowns.

Off the field, his profile rose with media recognition, such as being named Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year in 2017. In February 2021, after a long tenure with the Texans, Watt left the team, leaving a legacy defined by high-impact play, leadership, and multiple defensive honors.
