About

Jack Morris (John Scott Morris) is a former American Major League Baseball pitcher whose career lasted from 1977 to 1994, best known for his years with the Detroit Tigers. Known for a repertoire built on a fastball, slider and forkball, Morris was a five-time All-Star and won 254 career games, demonstrating notable durability: 175 complete games and leadership in games started, innings pitched and wins during the 1980s.

He was a key contributor to team championships: he was a member of the World Series-winning teams of 1984 (Tigers), 1991 (Minnesota Twins) and 1992 (Toronto Blue Jays), playing a decisive role in the 1984 playoffs and delivering a historic performance by pitching ten complete innings and winning Game 7 of the 1991 World Series—an effort that earned him World Series MVP and his second Babe Ruth Award.

Morris also produced individual highlights, such as a no-hitter against the Chicago White Sox on April 7, 1984, and multiple seasons with 20 or more wins. After retiring, he worked as a sports commentator for several broadcasters. In 2018 he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, where he is among pitchers with a relatively high career ERA.
