About

Jackie Wilson was an American singer and performer whose tenor voice, spanning four octaves, made him a central figure in the transition from rhythm and blues to soul. Known as "Mr. Excitement," he was notable for both his vocal power and stage presence, and is considered one of the most dynamic interpreters in the history of pop, R&B, and rock & roll.

First revealed as a member of the Dominoes, Wilson launched a solo career in 1957 and placed more than 50 singles on the charts, working across R&B, pop, soul, doo-wop, and easy listening. He scored 16 R&B Top 10 hits—six reaching number one—and 14 Top 20 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including six Top 10 pop singles.

His work and style influenced generations of singers and performers; two of his recordings were later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and he was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Critics and reference publications rank him among the most significant artists of his era.
