About

Jean-Claude Dauphin, stage name of Claude Legrand, is a French actor whose career spans film, television, and theatre. The son of two comedians, he attracted attention at a young age with Adolphe ou l’Âge tendre (1968) and established himself in the 1970s in films such as Les Amis, Beau Masque and La Mandarine, working with prominent figures of French cinema.

Over the decades he has played a variety of roles — from the hero Clovis in Adieu la vie (1986) to notable appearances in The Unbearable Lightness of Being and L'École de la chair — and has appeared in popular television series, as well as lending his voice to documentaries.

On stage he has taken part in productions of both contemporary and classical works, including plays by Israel Horovitz and Sam Shepard, showing versatility between stage and screen. His career reflects a steady presence in the French artistic scene, balancing leading parts with collaborations alongside well-known directors and performers.
