About

Jean Giraud was one of the most influential French comic-book artists and visual designers of the twentieth century, celebrated both for his western series and for science-fiction and fantasy works signed Moebius. First recognized as the artist of Blueberry—a series that established his reputation in the European western—Giraud used distinct signatures to explore different styles: Gir for realistic work and Moebius for more dreamlike, experimental narratives.

In the 1970s he co-founded the publisher and magazine Métal Hurlant, a decisive vehicle for renewing European science-fiction and fantasy comics. His collaboration with Alejandro Jodorowsky produced The Incal, a work of wide impact, and his own series such as Arzach and The Airtight Garage influenced generations of authors and visual artists.

Beyond comics, Giraud worked as a designer and visual consultant in film and video games, contributing to films such as The Fifth Element and to productions like Panzer Dragoon Saga. His legacy combines graphic innovation, thematic versatility, and a central role in the internationalization of the French bande dessinée.
