John Thomas McCook is an American actor best known internationally for his role as Eric Forrester on the long‑running soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful, on which he has been a regular presence since 1987. His professional career began in collegiate theater and included various jobs before he established himself on television, with recurring appearances in series and other soaps, including The Young and the Restless (1975–1980).
Over the course of his career, McCook moved among film, television and music: he recorded an album of romantic songs that reached prominent chart positions in some European countries and appeared in episodes of popular series in the 1970s and 1980s such as Three’s Company, Dynasty, Magnum, P.I. and Murder, She Wrote. His work also includes film roles and voice acting.
For his portrayal of Eric Forrester he received Daytime Emmy nominations in the lead actor category in 2001, 2012, 2018 and 2022, in addition to earlier nominations in supporting actor categories. Recognized as a steady presence in American soap operas, McCook has earned prominence and a notable legacy through his longevity in a central role on one of the genre’s most widely exported series.
