About

Lee Greenwood is an American country singer and songwriter who has been active since the early 1960s. He became a prominent figure in the genre by placing 33 singles on the country charts, including seven number-one hits, and by selling more than 25 million records worldwide. His professional career gained momentum in the early 1980s with Nashville contracts and a string of hits that established his name in American popular music.

Greenwood is best known for the patriotic song "God Bless the U.S.A.," released in 1984. The track moved beyond the musical sphere to be adopted in political and civic contexts, reappearing during national moments such as conflicts and election campaigns, which increased its prominence and made it a recognizable cultural symbol.

Beyond his artistic career, Greenwood held public posts related to the arts, having been appointed to a national council responsible for cultural policy. He also pursued ventures connected to his performances, at one point operating a theater in Tennessee for several years. His work and public presence have left a lasting mark on country music and American popular culture.
