Louise Jaume, also identified as Louise Léopoldine Barthélémy, is listed among the victims attributed to the serial killer Henri Désiré Landru. In the accounts of the crimes committed between 1914 and 1918, her name appears among the group of women who responded to matrimonial advertisements and later disappeared, a case that prompted investigations in Gambais and culminated in Landru’s trial.
Although the victims’ bodies were never found, records seized from the accused’s residence — including notes with names and amounts — and cross‑checked correspondence formed the basis of the prosecution. Louise’s story fits into the broader postwar context in which the large number of widows made correspondence schemes perpetrated by the defendant easier to carry out.
