About

Marella Agnelli was an Italian aristocrat internationally recognized as an art collector, occasional editor, photographer, and style icon. Born into the Caracciolo family, she was noted both for her social role and her cultural work: a familiar presence in fashion publications, she was inducted into the International Best Dressed Hall of Fame in 1963.

Trained in the arts in Paris, she worked as an assistant to photographer Erwin Blumenfeld in New York and collaborated with magazines such as Vogue and Condé Nast. She also developed a career in textile design, creating award‑winning lines and partnerships with houses like Ratti and Steiner, specializing in fabrics for interiors.

As a collector and patron, she directed the installation of the Pinacoteca Giovanni e Marella Agnelli atop the Lingotto, exhibiting masters such as Picasso, Renoir, and Canova, and promoted exhibitions of modern art. She chaired and served on boards of cultural and charitable institutions, including international commissions and foundations.

Author of books on gardens and a photographer of her own subjects, she left a legacy tied to patronage, design, and the preservation of public collections, establishing herself as a touchstone of good taste and cultural influence in Italy’s twentieth‑century scene.
