About

Marie NDiaye is a French novelist, playwright and screenwriter whose work became established in the 1980s. The daughter of a French mother and a Senegalese father, she grew up in the outskirts of Paris and began writing at a very young age; she published her first novel in 1985. Her output includes novels, plays and children's books, with notable titles such as Quant au riche avenir, Rosie Carpe, Mon cœur à l'étroit and Ladivine.

Known for psychological depth and a focus on family relationships and social precarity, NDiaye has received major literary awards, including the Prix Femina in 2001 and the Prix Goncourt in 2009 for Trois femmes puissantes. She has also worked in film, co-writing the screenplay for White Material (Minha Terra África, 2010), directed by Claire Denis.

Beyond critical praise and awards, her work has enjoyed wide editorial circulation and translation, helping to secure her prominent place in contemporary French literature. Writing for both adults and young readers, NDiaye has built a varied career that crosses genres and media.
