About

Martha Argerich is an Argentine and Swiss pianist of Jewish and Catalan descent, considered one of the greatest exponents of her generation and of the postwar period, noted for her interpretations of Frédéric Chopin, Franz Liszt, Johann Sebastian Bach, Robert Schumann, Maurice Ravel and Sergei Prokofiev.

Her aversion to the press and publicity kept her away from cameras for almost her entire career, and she has given relatively few interviews. For this reason she may be less known to the "general public" than other artists of similar stature. She is widely recognized as one of the greatest virtuoso pianists of her time. Her performance of Rachmaninoff's great Piano Concerto No. 3 (Rach 3) is considered by many to be "definitive".
