About

Thomas Morgan Woodward was an American actor whose career spanned film and television from the mid-1950s into the 1990s. A specialist in character roles, he was particularly prominent in the western genre, appearing in nearly every television series of that type during the 1950s and 1960s and also contributing numerous small roles to feature films.

On both the small and big screens, Woodward worked steadily: he appeared in 27 films between 1956 and 1988 and guest‑starred in nearly one hundred television productions between 1956 and 1997. He is remembered for the recurring role of Shotgun Gibbs in Le leggendarie imprese di Wyatt Earp, and for longer recurring parts such as Punk Anderson in Dallas, which he played in 55 episodes.

For his body of work in westerns, he received the Golden Boot Award in 1988, an honor given to professionals who made significant contributions to the genre. His legacy is that of a prolific supporting actor, noted for his versatility in authoritative and frontier roles, who helped shape the televised image of the Old West during the genre’s peak popularity.
