About

Nick Cave is an Australian musician and writer known for his distinctive career in alternative rock and post-punk. He rose to prominence leading The Birthday Party in the late 1970s, a band whose dark sound and intense performances helped shape the gothic and post-punk scenes in London and Berlin. In 1984 he founded Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, a long-running and influential group whose work repeatedly explores themes such as religion, death, love and violence.

Beyond his musical career, Cave has worked as a composer, screenwriter and author, contributing to film scores and cinematic projects. His literary voice and musical storytelling were cemented in landmark albums — including Murder Ballads, The Boatman’s Call, Skeleton Tree and Ghosteen — which broadened his critical reputation and cultural impact.

Personal events have influenced his work: the death of his son in 2015 directly affected the tone of Skeleton Tree. Cave has also spent periods living abroad, including a stay in São Paulo from 1990 to 1993, and maintains a transnational influence on contemporary music.
