About
Nicole Rieu is a French singer and singer-songwriter whose career took shape in the early 1970s with the radio hit Je suis. Discovered by major record labels, she established herself in the French popular repertoire with a clear voice and with songs and performances that move between chanson and melodic pop. In 1975 she represented France at the Eurovision Song Contest with Et bonjour à toi l'artiste, a performance that broadened her recognition beyond France, particularly in Québec.
Over the following decades she released numerous albums — including Naissance, Le ciel c'est ici, La Goutte d'eau and several themed records such as a Christmas album — and scored hits like Ma maison au bord de l'eau, Je m'envole and La Goutte d'eau, the latter awarded at MIDEM in Cannes. She worked with established authors and composers in the Francophone scene and took part in musical comedies and collective projects tied to cultural events.
Alternating periods of intense recording activity and tours across the Francophone world with pauses for her personal life, Rieu maintained a career defined by attention to language and lyrics, recurring themes of peace, love and equality, and a legacy as a performer devoted to Francophone audiences.
