About

Patrick Demarchelier was a French fashion photographer internationally recognized for his collaborations with major magazines and fashion houses. From the 1970s onward, his work appeared in the pages and on the covers of publications such as Vogue (British, French and American editions), Harper’s Bazaar, Elle and Rolling Stone, and in advertising campaigns for prestigious brands including Christian Dior, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton and Calvin Klein.

His elegant, straightforward aesthetic made him sought after by editors and advertisers; career highlights include shoots with celebrities and public figures, notably several official photographs of Princess Diana, and his distinction as the first non‑British photographer to formally photograph the British royal family. In 2005 he produced the Pirelli calendar, another notable recognition.

Over the course of his career he received institutional honors such as France’s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. He lived and worked in New York, leaving a legacy that influenced contemporary fashion photography until his death in 2022.
