About

Philippe Starck is a French designer and industrial architect whose work spans furniture, household objects, interiors, architecture, and vehicles. He became a central figure in so-called "democratic design," aiming to offer well-made, functional products using minimal material for everyday life and mass production.

From the 1980s and 1990s he designed iconic pieces such as the Juicy Salif citrus juicer (Alessi) and the Louis Ghost armchair (Kartell), which achieved wide commercial circulation. He collaborated with leading European brands and expanded his practice to hotels, restaurants and public facilities, as well as noteworthy nautical and architectural projects in Japan and Europe.

Starck has also developed initiatives related to sustainability and material innovation, including chairs made from waste or natural fibers, and technological products that combine design and engineering. His work is included in major museum collections and helped shape the idea that good design can be accessible to broad audiences.
