About

Princess Viktoria of Prussia (Friederike Amalia Wilhelmine Viktoria) was a member of the Prussian royal house, the daughter of Emperor Frederick III and Princess Victoria, herself a daughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom. Known within the family as “Moretta” or “Little Vicky,” she grew up in a politically tense environment: she was born in 1866 amid the upheavals that led to the Austro‑Prussian War and the emergence of the German Empire. Those events shaped the early years of her life and her family.

Viktoria’s childhood was marked by traumatic episodes and a strict, watchful upbringing; she was raised between the royal residences in Berlin and Potsdam, maintained a close bond with her maternal grandmother, and received a rigorous domestic education. She spoke English from an early age and showed a preference for physical activities, distinguishing herself in tennis and other sports.

Although she never became a public figure with a notable political or intellectual body of work, the princess represents the generation of European princesses whose personal lives and education reflected the dynastic and cultural tensions of the late nineteenth century. Her legacy lies chiefly in the role she played within the family dynamic and in the depiction of childhood among the high Prussian nobility of that period.
